A 19-year-old was arrested in May for initiating a high-speed chase after stealing a Highway Emergency Response Operators (HERO) vehicle. The incident happened in the afternoon at around 1 p.m. After getting pulled over by police in his own vehicle, the teen fled the scene. The HERO unit was nearby. He entered this vehicle and drove away as its driver tried to stop him. The vehicle driver suffered minor injuries when he was dragged as the teen took off.
As part of the pursuit, the suspect reportedly hit seven Georgia State Patrol vehicles. A person in the area was also hit. To end the chase, Georgia State Patrol performed a pursuit intervention technique maneuver that stopped the fleeing vehicle. Law enforcement stated that the teen had an outstanding warrant. He now faces numerous charges, including firearm possession while committing a felony, marijuana possession, auto theft and aggravated assault.
