How a drunk driving charge or conviction can affect your job

On Behalf of | Sep 14, 2018 | Drunk Driving |

If you are ever charged or convicted of driving under the influence (DUI) in Georgia, you will most likely have a lot of questions. Will you lose your license? How much in fines will you face? Is jail time part of the sentence? These are all important questions, but one of the most important centers around your career. Can a charge or conviction of DUI affect your current job or future employment prospects?

A charge of drunk driving, prior to a conviction, should not have a negative impact on your career as most states don’t permit employers to ask about arrests. If the arrest appears on your record, it is imperative that you disclose the information to the potential employer so they know you are not trying to hide anything.

When it comes to a DUI conviction, you might have a much more difficult problem to solve regarding your career. You very well could wind up suspended from your job or even relieved of your duties, especially if you are required to have a clean driving record or if your job requires you to use a company vehicle.

The same can be said when you begin the search for a new job. You might find yourself automatically disqualified for various job opportunities based on the requirements of the job and the job listing that is posted by the employer.

Facing a DUI charge is never easy, even if it is your first one. You need to do everything possible to protect your rights and fight to have the charges dropped. Your future and your career depend on it.
