Is robbery a felony in Georgia?

On Behalf of | Jul 28, 2017 | Felonies |

If you recently received robbery charges in Georgia, then you may be facing some very serious penalties. Robbery is considered a fairly serious crime, and depending on the type of robbery charge you receive, you may face decades in prison.

While there are several varieties and classes of robbery under Georgia law, they are all considered felonies. It is important to understand that even if you receive fairly light sentencing, you still face the difficulties of living as a felon once you serve your time. In some extreme cases, armed robbery can result in life in prison or even a death penalty.

You must consider your next several choices very carefully. Every moment that you wait to begin constructing a strong defense against these charges is simply more time that the state has to build their case against you. Without a strong defense, you may be looking at time behind bars ranging from a single year to 20 years, or even a life sentence.

Depending on the nature of the crime, whether you face simple robbery charges or armed robbery, or a robbery involving a pharmacy, the sentencing can vary significantly, but none of the options are particularly appealing.

Regardless of your guilt or innocence of these charges, you deserve to have your rights protected and your freedom defended. Twenty years in prison is a very, very long time to pay for a foolish mistake, and even longer to pay if you are innocent of the charges altogether.

If you need help building a strong defense, you can consult with an experienced attorney who understands the nuances of defending robbery charges in Georgia.
